Jerry Beverly
(name changed to Anthony Mennucci)
May 6, 1951 -  November 20, 2017.

It is with great heartbreak that we are notifying you of the unexpected passing of Anthony (Tony) Mennucci, age 66.
He was found at home on November 20th, 2017 and his death was associated with his long term battle with diabetes and heart issues.  It brings us comfort to know his everyday struggle with his health has come to an end and he can now rest in peace.

He is survived by 4 beautiful daughters Rachelle, Camille, Chelsea and Marissa, as well as his step-son Anthony whom he treated as his own, and his two younger brothers Ed and Kevin.

Those of you who were friends of Tony knew that his number one goal in life was to make people laugh. Whether it was telling jokes with his buddies at the bar or charming the waitress with his silly sense of humor, he was always trying to put a smile on every one's face. Witty, sarcastic and downright hilarious, you couldn't escape a conversation with him, without a good laugh.

He was a hustler, always looking to find new work for his stucco and stone business. There wasn't a project that he couldn't figure out and he took pride in every job he did along the way. Many days he pushed himself to the brink by working beyond his capacity to get the job done.

He was an avid Buckeye fan, and his love for college football ran deep. Every Saturday was his favorite, spending time tailgating or at the bar with friends to watch the game. He was their biggest supporter and always kept a positive outlook on the Buckeyes. I'm sure up in heaven, Michigan still sucks.

One thing everyone knows is that Tony never missed an opportunity to tell you how proud he was of his children. His conversations mainly revolved around how wonderful his daughters are, about how much he loved Anthony - the son he never had, and he enjoyed showing everyone pictures of his 8 beautiful grandchildren.

We appreciate everyone who made his life even a little brighter.

Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of support and concern for him and our families. His love and wonderful spirit will be forever missed. He expressed wishes to be cremated and have his ashes spread somewhere on a beach, so we are in the process of making those arrangements.

We will not be holding a showing or funeral, but plan on having a small memorial in his honor at a later date.

Christopher Calvin "Chris" Carson
February 20, 1951 - November 03, 2020

Christopher Calvin Carson (Big Chris to anyone who knew him) was born on February 20, 1951 to parents Catherine Moening and James Carson in Logansport, Indiana. He escaped this mortal realm on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the age of 69 years. It is certain that he died how he lived, with a constant subtle smile and a mad twinkle in his eyes.

He is survived by his sisters Rita, Sheila, Valerie, and Diane as well as his daughters, Cristen and Nikki and granddaughter, Leila.

He spent the first seventeen years of his life in Logansport getting into a fair amount of hijinks and trouble all in the name of good fun and boredom from being in a small town. At the age of seventeen years he decided to join the Marine Corps and headed out to California. He realized that a life in the military was not for him as the beds were short and he didnot like being yelled at and bossed around all the time. Chris was always known as an easy-going fella by all who knew him. He did, however, like California so he stuck around there until the last few days of his life.

Over the course of his adult life, Chris got married (and divorced) a few times. He helped raise two daughters and taught them all kinds of life lessons such as “variety is the spice of life,” “brevity is the soul of wit,” (which usually followed a longer than average story because irony was never lost on him!), “don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff” and “fuck the Dodgers.” Chris truly loved baseball and he regularly went to San Francisco Giants games with his friends and family. In general, Chris was a human who always met things and people with love and open-mindedness, but he really hated the LA Dodgers. Chris also loved classic rock n’ roll. As a way to ensure he perpetuated the love and appreciation of great musicians, he taught his daughters to sing classic rock and folk songs while meandering down the road in the car.

Chris got clean and sober on April 6, 1988 and would go on to change the lives of thousands of people he met during his 32 years of sobriety. Chris was substantial in stature at 6’7” and a few biscuits over 300 pounds, but always an air of lightness that surrounded him. He spent many hours on the back porch of the Alano Club West listening to whomever needed an open ear and sharing his humble wisdom. He was quick to love anyone, wherever they were. People always gravitated to his warm energy and open arms.

Chris spent his years as a gentle giant seamlessly gliding from experience to experience emulating the words of Hunter S. Thompson, “buy the ticket, take the ride.” Chris spent his life in search of knowledge in and out of school.  As part of his quest for ever-increasing knowledge and self-improvement, Chris went to school and got his bachelors degree in business from St. Mary’s University at the age of 54 years. When he wasn’t in a quest for knowledge, he was all about good food with good people. Chris was the first one to light up the charcoal and grab the tongs when BBQ was requested. He loved cooking for friends and family and for several years he would cook breakfast on Sunday mornings and leave his back door open for whomever was in need of some good food and conversation.

After he retired, Chris had the time of his life traveling the country in his motor home, Furtherer. He traveled from coast to coast from the very southern point of the Florida Keys to the tip top of Maine. His goal was to see baseball games all over the country as he was an avid lover of the boys of summer for most of his life. As he traveled around the country in Furtherer, he blogged about discovering the best places to eat, finding fellowship, national parks, and fishing holes.

Chris will be missed by all who knew him. There is no doubt that when you pass through this mortal realm to where he is spending the rest of time, he will have a hearty meal and a big hug waiting for you.

Sam Cole
Sept 1997

A Logansport man is being held on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident causing a death, a Class C Felony.

The 10:38 pm Friday crash left 48 year old Samuel Cole dead.

Cole, of 765 E 600 N, Lucerne, died at 11:27 pm at Logansport Memorial Hospital of internal injuries, said Tom Skinner, Cass County Coroner.

He was driving a 1981 Chevrolet car south on Ind 17 while another car, a 1989 Pontiac, driven by Calvin Burton, 23, was headed west on Northern Avenue.

Burton did not stop at the intersection, Deputy Tom Wallace surmised, since there was no sign that the Pontiac's breaks had been applied.

"There was no breaking whatsoever that we could find on (the) vehicle," he said.

The result was a T-bone impact, with the front of the Pontiac crashing into the drivers side door of the Chevrolet, Wallace said. Cole was thrown into the back seat of his car, and a passenger in the Burton vehicle, Dana Benn, 26, of 101 Mall Road, Apt 707, was thrown more than 20 feet from where the Pontiac came to rest, Wallace said.

Police initially believed that Benn had been driving the Pontiac, and that it had been stolen earlier in the evening from The Loft, 2100 Royal Center Pike.

Apparently, said Cass Detective Sgt Rick Canfield, Burton and another passenger, Jonathon Melton, 21, fled on foot after the crash leaving Benn lying face down in the middle of a residential lawn.

Benn had suffered severe head injuries, an open compound fracture on his left arm and an injured right hand and forearm, Wallace said. He was flown to Parkview Hospital in fort Wayne, where he was listed in serious condition Saturday.

But before Canfield knew anything about Melton and Burton,  he had been told a completely different story.

The Pontiac, which is owned by Dannie Barrett, of Reynolds, was reported stolen by Barrett's daughter, Tonya VanHorn, of 118 E. Linden Ave, shortly after the crash happened, Canfield said.

She told  police she was just separated from her husband and had gone to stay at her cousin's house at 1304 Liberty St. Because the Pontiac was parked outside the residence, Van Horn said her husband knew that's where she was staying and was repeatedly harassing her in person and by phone.

To be left alone, Van Horn claimed, she and her cousin drove the car between 7:30 and 8 pm, Friday, to the parking lot of The Loft, a location they thought could be inconspicuous. They told Canfield that they left the doors unlocked and the keys in the console.

When they returned to pick up the car, around 10;30 pm, they said, the car was gone.

But this story didn't add up, Canfield said.

"The time was the first thing that got me," he said, adding that he thought it was too ironic that the car had been reported stolen about the same time it was involved in the fatality accident.

During further investigations, Canfield said he got what he believes to be the true story from VanHorn and her cousin.

When pressed for details, Van Horn admitted she loaned the car to Burton earlier Friday, and Burton, Benn and Melton reportedly were drinking beer inside the car as they drove around town, Canfield said.

AS Burton approached the Northern Avenue-Ind 17 intersection later, he was traveling at a high rate of speed in a 35 mph zone, Canfield said. There were reports the Pontiac's headlights weren't on at the time of the accident. Further investigation of the car's headlight bulbs will determine whether those reports are true, Wallace said.

A half-full bottle of beer was found inside the car, Wallace said, and more bottles were found inside the car.

Burton and Melton walked from the accident scene to The Loft, where they phoned VanHorn at her cousin's house and told her to make an auto theft report.

Burton the called a relative, asking for transportation back to town, Canfield said.

Further into Cornfield's questioning of VanHorn and her cousin learned that either Burton or Melton could be at 1902 Woodlawn Ave. City and county police searched the residence, and found an injured Melton hiding in the attic. He allegedly gave the police a fictitious name., which they learned belonged to his brother, Canfield said.

Later police learned that Burton could be hiding at Lot 28 of the Maplelane Village Home Park on U.S. 35. They found him there and arrested him, Canfield said. He had not been injured. Blood was drawn from him and will be sent to the state laboratory from blood-alcohol evaluation.

Burton was on parole at the time of the accident on a 15-day parole hold with no bond set. More charges could be filed against him, Canfield said.

Melton was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and also an outstanding warrant charging failure to appear.

VanHorn could be charged with obstruction of justice or false information, but no charges have been filed as yet, Canfield said.
